After thirty eight years in Art and Design education, first in primary and secondary schools and latterly in undergraduate and postgraduate pre-service and in-service teacher education, Alastair Laing has retired from the post of Senior University Teacher and subject leader in Expressive Arts in the Department of Curriculum Studies, Faculty of Education, University of Glasgow. During that time he was seconded to the Scottish Education Department first as National Development Officer for Education and Industry and latterly as Development Officer in Art and Design for the Standard Grade Initiative. He has been External Examiner for PGC courses in Art and Design in Scotland and Ireland, and is presently Associate Lecturer at both Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities. He is a former President and presently Honorary Treasurer of the National Society for Education in Art and Design.
